Potato Seed Production is situated on the Long Tom Pass, in the Drakensberg mountain slopes close to Lydenburg, in Mpumulanga.
The centre was legislated for and initially established by the Potato Board in 1971, as South Africa's first nuclear seed potato production unit. From its inception, the sole purpose of the facility was to supply high quality seed potatoes to the industry. The unit was privatised in 1994 and continues to be managed by members of the Mellet family.
